Empowering Visionaries: The Ablr Works Journey

Meet Ablr Works Graduate Sandi Owens

In the realm of workforce development, there’s a special place where resilience meets opportunity, where challenges are transformed into strengths, and where visionaries are born. Welcome to Ablr Works, where we don’t just see potential — we empower it.

Today, we’re thrilled to spotlight one of our extraordinary candidates, Sandi Owens, whose journey embodies the spirit of determination, adaptability, and innovation that defines our program. See Sandi’s LinkedIn Profile to learn more about her.

Background and Transition

Sandi’s story begins as a dedicated math teacher with over a decade of experience. Hailing from Philadelphia, PA, she brought her passion for education to classrooms both local and global. However, when faced with vision challenges that hindered her ability to connect with her students, Sandi faced a pivotal moment of transition. “When I realized that I was unable to teach in the regular classroom setting any longer… I knew I had to step away,” she shares. It was this realization that led her to embark on a new path — one where she could continue to impact lives in a different capacity.

Choosing Ablr Works

Sandi’s journey led her to Ablr Works, where she found the perfect blend of opportunity and education. “I chose to go to the Ablr Works program because I was not sure about what it was,” Sandi reflects. “You can never have too much knowledge.” Her decision to embrace the unknown speaks volumes about her courage and willingness to seize new opportunities.

Impact of Digital Accessibility Training

At Ablr Works, Sandi found not just knowledge, but empowerment. Through our program’s emphasis on digital accessibility, she gained invaluable skills that have since become integral to her career. “Ablr has helped more than you all may know… it kind of brought awareness to the students, the consumers that I worked with that, you know, accessibility is important,” Sandi emphasizes. Her ability to translate this knowledge into tangible impact showcases the transformative power of education.

Opportunities for Visionaries

Sandi’s journey underscores the importance of creating opportunities for individuals with disabilities. “I don’t feel like there’s a lot of opportunities out there for people who are visually impaired or blind career-wise,” she notes. At Ablr, we’re committed to changing that narrative. Through our comprehensive training and career development programs, we aim to empower visionaries like Sandi to pursue their passions and achieve their dreams.

Advice to High School Self

Reflecting on her journey, Sandi offers words of encouragement to her younger self and others facing similar challenges. “That it’s OK, Everything is going to be OK… just knowing everything is OK,” she reassures. Her message of resilience and self-assurance resonates with anyone navigating the complexities of life’s transitions.

Entrepreneurship and Career Advice

Today, Sandi stands as a beacon of inspiration, having launched her own business, Making It Visible, LLC. Her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to accessibility epitomize the ethos of Ablr Works. “Make sure you have a set plan… If you don’t, someone else will. So why not let it be you?” Sandi advises. Her words encapsulate the essence of empowerment — the belief that with determination and vision, anything is possible.
