Celebrating Career and Professional Development Month with Our Candidates

Celebrating Career and Professional Development Month with Our Candidates - Ablr Blog Post

November is an important month for us at Ablr. We celebrate Career and Professional Development Month and embrace the overwhelming sense of gratitude that comes with Thanksgiving! We couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible candidates who have come through our Workforce Development Program. Every cohort reminds us of our mission and why we do what we do! Our sole mission is to help empower the Blind and Low Vision community to find meaningful employment and create a launch pad for their careers and lives.

At Ablr, our mission is built on possibility. When we see our candidates graduate and move into internships and jobs where they’re thriving, it reaffirms that the secret for us is to help people unlock their confidence, discover new skills, and realize the value they bring to the world and the organizations they work for.

Reflections from Our Candidates

In celebration of Career and Professional Development Month, we’re honored to share reflections from several of our recent graduates. They’ve shared what this experience has meant to them and what they hope prospective candidates and employers will understand about the impact of Ablr’s Workforce Development Program.

Kate Franklin

“Joining the Ablr Accessibility Analyst program has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my professional journey. Through Ablr, I have learned to evaluate and improve digital accessibility while strengthening how I work with others… My confidence has grown exponentially, and I am sincerely thankful for the guidance and support provided by the staff throughout the program.”

Colin Shouse

“Ablr does an exceptional job at sharpening communication skills as well as time management… My time at Ablr has given me perspective on what it will be like in an actual job setting where intensity is high and competition is present [my experience was] an 11/10 on preparing someone for the real-world job market.”

Charlyette Wright

“I joined the training program at Ablr only two months after finishing classes at the school for the blind in North Carolina. I was nervous and unsure if I could take on a task such as this… The dedicated professionals at Ablr guided me through from basic computer navigation all the way to analyzing every web page I encounter. As a person who lost their sight later in life, getting to know the internet all over again has been challenging, rewarding, and eye opening. I no longer see my blindness as a disability, but as my special ability to see out into the world.”

Elijah Toomer

“I have a solid understanding of the principles and guidelines of accessibility for digital data and have hands-on experience with Axe Auditor in testing for accessibility compliance… Upon completion of the Ablr Work Accessibility Program, I passed the Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) exam and was accepted into an internship which I can proudly add to my resume.”

The Future of Accessibility

Hearing how our graduates are succeeding reminds us that the work we do together matters. The Ablr Workforce Development Program isn’t just training, it’s transformation. It’s giving individuals the tools and confidence to make a difference in their careers, their communities, and the future of accessibility.

We are proud beyond words of our graduating class. Their resilience, growth, and determination inspire us every day. Just like the candidates that came before them, they represent what’s possible when opportunity meets preparation. They also stand as beacons of hope for our new candidates just starting their employment journeys with us at Ablr.

As we celebrate Career and Professional Development Month, we want to say thank you to every candidate who has trusted Ablr with their journey. You remind us daily why we’re here and what we’re capable of achieving together.
