We have some exciting news to share: we have a new team member!
Meet Arielle, Ablr’s newest addition to the team! Arielle is joining us as the Project Coordinator for our digital accessibility work.
Could you tell us about Hiring Our Heroes and how you found Ablr?
As a military wife, starting the job search again can be an intimidating process. When you’re a military wife, you tend to have time gaps in your resume and if you don’t have a remote position, then you can’t really rack up the job history. These can be big red flags for recruiters looking at resumes. Without the context of why, you can be considered a risk. Because of this I decided to apply for the Hiring Our Heroes program. Their mission is to help the military community gain meaningful employment. I was able to connect with amazing people through the program who are doing great work connecting the military community to employers looking to hire. Through this program, I had the opportunity to interview as the Project Coordinator at Ablr.
Could you tell us what is one of the most impactful things you learned about accessibility so far?
Since I started at Ablr, I have had the opportunity to learn so much about digital accessibility. I have over 5 years of experience in project management but am new to the accessibility side. Ablr’s accessibility process and their passion for their work has been contagious, so I’ve had to chance to learn so much already. I had a misconception and I think so do a lot of people do that the digital space is accessible since technology is so advanced from 10 years ago. When actually over 90% of websites are unusable for people who need assistive technology. Learning how assistive technology works has been incredibly educational. I am learning something new every day. As Kim (our Director of Accessibility) always says: accessibility is a journey.
Could you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
Sure, I’m full of fun facts and what’s more fun than animals. We have 4 dogs, 2 goats, a dozen chickens, a fluffy bunny and three boys who sometimes act like animals.
